Oncology Specialists provides comprehensive hematology/medical oncology services at Lutheran General Hospital in the Chicago area. These services include:
Every patient’s experience at Oncology Specialists starts with a physician visit, either with an individual physician or in one of our multi-disciplinary clinics in which two or more physicians consult with the patient. The patient comes to us with a diagnosis; it is at this visit that the various tests are reviewed and a recommendation is made as to a treatment strategy.
Chemotherapy is, of course, the most common feature of a medical oncology practice. Over the past two decades, improvements in the pharmaceuticals that are used in chemotherapy have allowed most treatments to be moved out of the hospital setting.
By eliminating or controlling some of the most severe side effects, we are able to provide chemotherapy to a patient who is then well enough, in many cases, to keep working and pursuing other daily activities during treatment.
The chemotherapy nursing staff at our Chicago-area treatment center at Lutheran General Hospital is trained in the administration of these drugs. They also counsel patients and families on what to expect, and routinely speak with them on the phone between office visits to stay informed about their condition and to resolve any issues that may present themselves.
In all our practice offices, chemotherapy is delivered in a comfortable environment with appropriate privacy and continuous nursing care.

Oncology Specialists is committed to the highest standard of quality control in the handling and dispensing of the drugs we use.
We provide an extra level of care and professionalism in the preparation and delivery of chemotherapy agents to our Chicago-area patients as well as in instructing patients concerning the expected effects of chemotherapy.
At Oncology Specialists, our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians verify each patient’s drug and dosage and confirm them with the patient’s chemotherapy nurse before allowing them to be removed from the pharmacy for administration.
Medical imaging is an important tool in the treatment of cancer. Not only is it invaluable in the early detection of tumors, but computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) scans are among the most basic tools used to assess the efficacy of treatment.
Without medical imaging, physicians would have to rely on surgery or other invasive procedures to evaluate the spread of disease, or worse, they would have to wait on symptoms to develop before deciding to continue or modify a particular course of treatment. Oncologists make use of the information provided by scans as a key element of their work.
Oncology Specialists offers CT and PET services at our Niles facility. Our patients can, if they choose, receive their scans at this facility and avoid having to work with outside providers.
Our physicians can receive the scan images at their desks, usually within 24 hours, thus reducing waiting time and uncertainty.
