Oncology Specialists, S.C. provides exceptional care for patients from across Illinois and beyond. We are unlike other medical oncology practices because we specialize not just in cancer therapy, but have additional expertise in treating specific types of cancer.
Our Chicago-area cancer treatment centers are located on the campuses of Lutheran General Hospital and Rush North Shore Medical Center, and at the Oak Mill Center in Niles. Our physicians, individually and in small groups, focus on cancer care in areas such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, head and neck cancer, gynecological cancer, and unusual and difficult diseases such as melanoma, sarcoma, and lymphoma. This allows us to provide cancer care that is exceptional.
Oncology Specialists now provides "take-home" pharmacy services for our chemotherapy patients. We offer a variety of commonly used chemotherapy and supportive care drugs for self-administration. Insurance, particularly where prescriptions are concerned, can be complex. To help you understand the financial impact of your treatment, we will compare the cost to you of oral and self-injectable drugs, where available, with the cost of receiving your drugs in our outpatient clinic. Ask your chemotherapy nurse or your doctor for more information.
Our Anti-Coagulation and Thrombosis Center (ATC) at the Park Ridge Office provides a convenient and reliable service to patients who require careful monitoring of their anticoagulation medications. The center provides an immediate measurement, so that an assessment of any required adjustment in dosage can be provided instantly. New patients are seen at the ATC on Wednesday mornings. Have your physician call 847-268-8594 to arrange an initial appointment for you. Follow-up visits may be scheduled for any weekday morning.
Through arrangements with other institutions, organizations, and practices, we provide information on a variety of complementary services, often free of charge, to patients. Here is a list of current offerings.
Nutrition. Lutheran General Hospital makes available, without charge, two or three consultation appointments each month to cancer patients who require assistance with their nutrition. Speak with your chemotherapy nurse, or call 847-723-8502 to request an appointment.
The American Cancer Society holds its popular "Look Good - Feel Better" class from time to time at the Lutheran General Hospital Center for Advanced Care. Call Sandy at 847-723-8502 to register.
Lymphedema Prevention. For those who have had breast surgery, physical therapists from time to time present classes on lymphedema prevention at the Advocate Lutheran General Center for Advanced Care. For information on this free class, call 847-723-8502.
The Cancer Wellness Center in Northbrook presents a Melanoma Networking Group on the first Wednesday of each month from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. without charge and without reservation. Call 847-509-9595 for information.
The Cancer Wellness Center also has a Lung Cancer Networking Group for survivors and family members.
